The president of the Confederation of Small and Medium-sized Businesses (Codopyme) has complained that while Law 488-08 benefits the sector, its fulfillment is being practically ignored by the government. He also complained that two years after the law was approved, its ruling has not yet been drafted, as reported in Listin Diario.
He said that while the law represents an important step ahead for the sector, it is useless if it is not applied. He wants the government to apply Law 340-06 that orders the government procure 15-20% of its purchases from local companies. He said that so far small and medium-sized companies are not being given a look-in.
He called the authorities' attention to the considerable loss of formal jobs. He said some 60,000 people lost their jobs in the first semester of the year. "This is a figure that should concern us and we call for adopting urgent measures," he said.
He said that another cause for concern was the lack of funding for the program for micro, small and medium-sized companies (Promipyme).
