With all the recent heavy rainfall, it was just a matter of time. In Jimani, the DR's main border crossing point into Haiti, the Azuei Lake has finally flooded the Customs and Migration Departments offices, as well as the Animal and Plant Health offices and the Specialized Border Security Corps (Cesfront) guardhouse. Several commercial establishments nearby were also flooded out as well as the area used for the twice-weekly Dominican-Haitian market. The highway is also under water, according to Hoy newspaper. Resolution 5-2010 of the Municipality of Jimani indicates that the rising Lake Azuei has caused major flooding in the area of Malpasse and "disrupted people and institutions daily lives and occupations". The resolution declared a "state of emergency in the city of Jimani".
