The Ministry of Public Works says that workers are finishing the reconstructed road to Constanza, the central highlands farming center and tourism destination, due for inauguration on 29 June. The road suffered serious drainage problems resulting in the collapse of several areas, making travel hazardous. At a cost of RD$4 billion, a superstructure of walls was built to reduce curves and overcome the problems caused by the terrain. Signage was also placed to indicate which curves required more care on the part of drivers.
Public Works Minister Victor Rua also announced that the overpasses over Nunez de Caceres with John F. Kennedy Avenue in Santo Domingo would be ready in July. The San Cristobal-Bani highway is scheduled for inauguration on 22 July, according to Rua.
