41-year old Jose Jordi Veras Rodriguez, son of Santiago lawyer Ramon Antonio Veras (Negro) will remain in New York where he underwent facial surgery for injuries to the orbits of his eyes, the structure of his nose and face at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary for another evaluation. He escaped with his life after a suspected murder attempt on 2 June, but the main damage was to the vision in his right eye. It doesn't look good for his right eye, but the doctors want to see him again in a week. Jordi Veras is a news commentator and lawyer. He was shot at by two individuals on a motorcycle when arriving at the TV station for his program. The father said that when the surgeons operated on 11 June they found that the patient's condition was more delicate than shown in preliminary studies, and that both ocular orbits were damaged by the effects of the bullet that hit him in the face. His father explained that in the first operation, surgeons reconstructed the orbit of his right eye and the base of his left eye, using high tech material. But they need to wait for the inflammation to subside before evaluating the vision in both eyes, said Veras Sr.
