Jose Rafael Vargas, senator elect for Espaillat province and president of the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel), recently visited Jamaica to see the experience Flow is providing first hand. The company has built a state-of-the-art broadband network that revolutionized the local cable and broadband market offering services of up to 15,360 Kbps download. In Jamaica, Flow offers packages of J$2,450 (approx US$29 or RD$1,060) for up to 8,192/1,024 Kbps and 15,360/1,544 Kbps for J$3,200 (approx US$37 or RD$1,350).
In Jamaica, Flow is not a monopoly and competes with Cable & Wireless, Anbell, Emoquad, Infochannel, Kasnet and Cybervale.
As a result, Jamaica is ranked among the top 10 countries in the Americas, by speedtest.net with 4.80 Mbps, compared to 9.96 in the US. The DR's leading provider Codetel averages 0.96 megabits, according to speedtest.net
Flow built an extensive undersea fiber system connecting Jamaica to the rest of the world. Indotel has said it wants to bring more competition into the Dominican market to bring down prices and bring up Internet speed.
