The management of the Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE) has announced measures aimed at driving home the importance of employees responding promptly to reports of electricity problems.
Following an investigation into an incident involving the EdeEste power distribution company, CDEEE executive vice president Celso Marranzini called on the company to end its contract with call center operator Ingenieria Urbana Venere. It also called for the firing of the brigade that should have fixed a high-tension line that caused the electrocution of 28-year old Angelica Mara Tejeda and her 4-month old baby in Villa Consuelo. Residents had reported the cable had fallen into a street.
The CDEEE, which coordinates the energy sector, instructed the power distribution companies to create emergency lines for reporting major problems, so as to get around the delays experienced with some call centers. Marranzini presented the results of the investigation to EdeEste general administrator Ruben Jimenez Bichara.
The investigation established that on Friday, 11 June, Villa Consuelo resident Pedro Antonio Berroa notified EdeEste call center operator Robinson Perez of the serious problem. The operator said that a brigade would be sent, but this never happened. The investigation also revealed that another local resident, Francisco Arturo Delgado, saw an EdeEste brigade in the area at 1am and informed them of the fallen cable. He was promised that a team with the right equipment would arrive to solve the problem in 15 minutes.
