Investigative journalist Alicia Ortega has submitted an appeal for legal protection in the Civil and Commercial Court of Santo Domingo to stop the legal action taken by the director of the Dominican Agrarian Institute, Hector Rodriguez Pimentel against her TV shows and advertisers. She is represented by lawyers Juan Manuel Pellerano Gomez, Luis Miguel Rivas, Olivo Rodriguez Hertas, Katiuska Jimenez and Laura Acosta. Ortega says they are asking the court to issue an order requiring Rodriguez Pimentel to desist from his actions that she says are affecting freedom of speech. Last week Rodriguez Pimentel sent out notes warning that legal action would be taken against 33 advertisers on Alicia Ortega news shows. Rodriguez Pimentel's legal counsel is Carlos Balcacer.
