The CDEEE has warned people of the danger of illegal electrical connections. On Friday at 5pm, a Haitian family (34 year old Lucmond Genard, his wife 25-year old Jacqueline Joseph and daughters 5-year old Sarah and 3-year old Rebecca) was electrocuted in Los Tres Brazos in Los Mina of eastern Santo Domingo. The CDEEE said that the investigation into the case showed that the family lived in a rented house with an illegal and dangerous electrical connection.
The Genard home was an electrical death trap. EdeEste said that the house did not have electrical protection in breakers, the repeatedly patched wiring was in poor condition, and the house was made of zinc, to make matters worse. A neighbor, Juan Ramon Duran said that Genard had been asking the owner of the dwelling to repair the electric installations for several months, as reported in El Dia.
The tragedy happened when power service was restored in the neighborhood after a long blackout.
The family was buried in a single grave at the Cristo Salvador cemetery.
Hoy reports that going by newspaper reports alone, that at least 22 people have been fatally electrocuted in the past six months in domestic accidents.
