The Dominican women's team has defeated Argentina 3-1 in the Women's Volleyball Pan American Cup taking place in Tijuana, Mexico. The event is organized by the North, Central and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (Norceca). This is the country's second victory in Pool A 3-1 (25-14, 27-25, 26-28, 25-20). Both teams have a 2-1 record.
According to Norceca, Prisilla Rivera paced the Dominican team with 24 points, including four blocks while Annerys Vargas added 13 and Lisvel Eve contributed five blocks among her 11 points. Georgina Pinedo and Florencia Busquets had 13 and 11 for Argentina.
"We played a brilliant first set and then like in previous matches we turned a little over- confident," Dominican Milagros Cabral said. "When we built a big margin in the third set the younger players received the chance to play and unfortunately we lost the set. Then we have a strong comeback."
"Our serves were very good today and in the third set I gave the chance to play to our bench because I am going to need them in the second round and I want them to be prepared to play under pressure," Coach Marcos Kwiek said.
Horacio Bastit, the Argentinean coach said: "We played a good second set against a high- level team like the Dominican Republic but let it escape. The third set we won against a young squad but the important thing is what you do playing their first team."
