President Leonel Fernandez should accept that he is wrong to keep the local press at a distance, El Nacional editor Radhames Gomez Pepin said today, as reported in Hoy. The veteran journalist advised the President to make himself available for questioning by the Dominican press.
Yesterday, Hoy reported that while President Fernandez has been available for interviews with international press, this has not been the case with the local press unless there is a specific message the President has wanted to deliver.
"We wish that President Fernandez would say something every week on what his government is doing, but not in a recorded program with planted questions," said Gomez Pepin.
Hoy also reported that during the Robert Reid Cabral Hospital inaugural, President Leonel Fernandez's security corps prevented journalists from addressing questions to the President, the First Lady and the many government officials in attendance.
