Prisons Department director Manuel de Jesus Perez Sanchez has ordered staff members on duty at the Najayo Jail to be relieved from the service after inmate Frederick Guillermo Medina Abud, arrested in the Paya drug trafficking case was left alone at the Ciudad Nueva Palacio de la Justicia court on Tuesday. Medina Abud had been taken to the Third Collegiate Court of the Penal Chamber of the First Instance Court of the National District to testify in the case against 22 people accused in the Paya killing. Initially, he was among the accused, but was later excluded from the accusation for lack of proof, as reported in Diario Libre.
Strangely, to return to the jail, Medina Abud had to catch a "lift" after not being able to find the official vehicle that was supposed to take him back to the jail. He got a lift on the bus that was taking inmates to the Azua jail.
Diario Libre reports that Medina Abud is serving a 20-year sentence after being found guilty of killing his neighbor Toribio Pitit Montero in Los Rios.
