A full house audience at the Hotel Jaragua's La Fiesta Hall was left wanting on Tuesday after Spanish gypsy singer-songwriter Diego El Cigala left the stage and did not return. He had sung 13 songs. The audience at first thought there was an intermission, but then booed him when he did not return. Alfonso Quinones, writing in Diario Libre, explains what happened. He says that the singer told Diario Libre: "They were not watching me. The audience was eating, drinking, chatting, kissing, they were not (paying attention to) Diego. I need an audience that is focused on me because I come to give a show that is different. Even the musicians told me, what are we doing here!"
Cigala himself went backstage several times to refill his own drink. He said he would like to return to sing for Dominican audiences, but this time in a theater where the audience would not be distracted.
