Seven people suffered burns, seven vehicles were destroyed and nine buildings were severely damaged as a result of a fire caused when a propane delivery truck exploded in the town of Esperanza, in the northwestern province of Valverde. The injured, who suffered second and third-degree burns, included restaurant owner Cesar Munoz, Haitian cook Rosanny Climex, Francisco Guillo, Joselin Perez, Anthony Hernandez and Robert de Jesus Rosario. The damaged vehicles included an armored truck, a 2006 Toyota Corolla, a pick-up truck and five motorcycles.
According to witnesses, the propane truck was delivering gas to the "Al Cesar Restaurant" when a motorcycle threw a spark when it was started up and the truck started to burn.
Jose Alberto Cruz said that "When the truck began to pump gas there was a strong smell of propane, but we never suspected that a simple motorcycle backfire would cause such a big fire...".
