The strategy being employed by the Dominican and Puerto Rican authorities for tackling the case of wanted drug trafficker Jose David Figueroa Agosto consists of destroying his ability to act, Puerto Rican Police Superintendent Jose Figueroa Sancha, Dominican National Police chief Rafael Guillermo Guzman Fermin, National Drug Control Department (DNCD) head Rolando Rosado Mateo told reporters. "What is important is to identify (the structure of the Figueroa Agosto network) and keep breaking up the organization", said Figueroa Sancha, "as has happened to other criminal organizations when their time comes". Guzman Fermin defined the capture of the contract killers as "a sharp and accurate blow, unprecedented in the history of the National Police and the Justice Department". The major general said that "for the first time (crime) has been fought successfully".
Figueroa Sancha is in the DR to take part in the 26th Extraordinary Meeting of the Commission of Heads and Directors of Police from Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean that took place in Santo Domingo yesterday.
The DNCD head referred to the case in the same terms, in reference to the capture of the contract killers last week. "The Figueroa Agosto network is seriously wounded because we won't take one step back in the fight against drug trafficking", said Rosado Mateo.
According to Puerto Rico's Police Superintendent, "Figueroa Agosto got hit hard in the Dominican Republic and that will weaken them further, so they can corner him and prepare for the arrest". At the same time, Rosado Mateo said that contract killing is a reflection of the weakness of the drug traffickers "now that they are dismantling the networks and foundations that they had here, there is only one way to collect and that is with blood".
