Canadian ambassador to the DR Todd Kuiack is lobbying for the resumption of talks aimed at reaching a free trade agreement between the DR and Canada. The talks were interrupted about three years ago when the DR went ahead to sign the FTA with the US. He said the new agreement should not be a repeat of the agreements with the US and Europe, but one that reflects the friendly relationship and creates a good business climate. He says Canadian companies are the leading investors in the DR.
