The authorities have recovered three bodies, of 15-year old Orbis Mora Noboa, 12-year old Nicolas Gil Contreras and 13-year old Christopher Hernandez, who drowned when swimming at a small beach off the Montesinos statue on the Malecon. Fire Service Head of Operations Colonel Jose Luis Herasme, who helped recover the bodies, said that swimming on this part of the seafront was "strictly prohibited," but the boys had not listened to warnings.
Jovanny Guzman, of the Foundation for the Environmental Recovery of La Cienaga, commented that the authorities needed to watch these areas where minors go swimming to prevent another tragedy.
