President Rene Preval of Haiti and President Leonel Fernandez held a three-hour meeting at the Presidential Palace yesterday. They announced that the Bi-National Mixed Commission would meet in Port au Prince on 30 July to discuss the reconstruction process under way in Haiti.
The commission, which was created to discuss Haitian and Dominican related issues, has not met since 1999.
Also representing Haiti were Prime Minister Jean Max Bellerive, Foreign Relations Minister Marie Michele Rey, Industry & Commerce Minister Joselyn Colimon and the Minister for Haitians Living Abroad, Edwin Paraison.
Also attending for the DR, were Economy, Planning and Development Minister Temistocles Montas, Industry and Commerce Minister Jose Ramon Fadul, Ruben Silie and Carlos Castillo Dominican ambassador and consul in Haiti, and deputy Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Trullols.
Also attending were First Ladies Margarita Cedeno and Elisabeth Preval.
Montas said that President Fernandez would travel to the north of Haiti the day after the meeting for the start of construction works on the university the Dominican government plans to build in Haiti.
