Puerto Rican Governor Luis Fortuno will accompany a multi-sectorial mission to the DR on 13-14 October. Puerto Rico's Secretary of State Kenneth McClintock and Foreign Relations Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso made the announcement in San Juan, during a meeting held yesterday to discuss the implementation of a Joint Statement for the Strategic Alliance between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
President Leonel Fernandez had signed the agreement on 4 June 2009.
The alliance involves promoting investment and trade, cooperation in energy sector, including the use of renewable energies. The mission will discuss ways of strengthening trade, mutual investment, promote strategic business alliances, manufacturing and develop multi-destination tourism.
The DR is Puerto Rico's second most important trading partner, after the US. Trade during fiscal year 2009 totaled US$1,206,000,000, with exports to Puerto Rico at US$448,000,000 and imports at US$758,000,000.
