According to a recent Gallup Poll in Hoy, Dominicans perceive the cost of living, crime and blackouts as the three greatest problems affecting life in the DR. 71.6% feel that the economy has gotten worse. Only 28.3% feel the country is headed in the right direction, and 46.8% are pessimistic, saying things will be worse at the end of this government. While the government slogan since 2004 has been "we are going forward," the public perception is 38.9% stagnated, and 19.3% going backwards, compared to 40.4% of moving ahead.
Some 1,200 people of voting age were polled from 12 to 16 June.
