The Symphony Foundation (Fundacion Sinfonia) and the Ministry of Culture announced an appearance by famous orchestra director Daniel Barenboim and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra at the National Theater on 8-9 August. The orchestra will play two concerts of works by Beethoven. The orchestra, which is made up of young Israeli, Palestinian, Syrian, Jordanian and Egyptian musicians and a small group from Spain, is currently on a tour of Latin America. Margarita Copello de Rodriguez said the event is being held as part of Santo Domingo's hosting of the American Capital of Culture and the 37th anniversary of the National Theater.
