A Gallup/Hoy poll of 1,200 Dominicans of voting age provides a preview of reactions to the presidential aspirations for the leading political parties. To the question of "Who do you think should be the PLD candidate in 2012," those polled answered:
Margarita Cedeno de Fernandez (25%), Leonel Fernandez (20.1%), Danilo Medina (16.4%), Francisco Dominguez Brito (3.7%), Jaime David Fernandez Mirabal (2.7%), Jose Tomas Perez (2.3%) and Rafael Alburquerque (2.2%).
The same question for the PRD delivered:
Hipolito Mejia (31%), Miguel Vargas Maldonado (30.8%), Luis Abinader (7.2%) and Jose Joaquin Puello (1.1%).
82% of respondents said they had voted in the 2008 presidential election.
For the PRSC, Amable Aristy Castro (35%), Carlos Morales Troncoso (15%) and Federico Antun Batlle (5%).
Others mentioned as possible presidential candidates are: Guillermo Moreno, Eduardo Estrella, Hatuey DeCamps, Luis Acosta Moreta, Trajano Santana, Juan Ramon Gomez Diaz, Pelegrin Castillo, Vincho Castillo, Jose Miguel Soto Jimenez, Pedro de Jesus Candelier and Elias Wessin Chavez.
