Hacienda Minister Vicente Bengoa said that the government will not take on debt this year beyond the RD$115,364 million ceiling agreed in the International Monetary Fund letter of intention. He said the government has a deficit of 2.6% of the Gross Domestic Product, or RD$47,828 million. He said that the government would pay RD$68,136 million on the foreign debt. The National Budget calls for RD$263,032,913,959 in revenues and RD$310,861,344,060 in disbursements. He insisted that the cuts to government institutions are merely to cover the US$350 million electricity subsidy deficit.
