Finance Minister Vicente Bengoa has announced that the government will be announcing a new call for tenders to equip the police department, which will annul the US$132 million commercial bank loan previously approved by Congress. Bengoa spoke after meeting with President Leonel Fernandez at the Presidential Palace. According to a report by El Caribe, Bengoa explained that it would not be necessary to submit the loan bill to Congress because the tender practice annuls the credit. Bengoa had signed the bill, but once passed by Congress, Technical Minister of the Presidency Temistocles Montas rejected it, calling it an error.
