The senator elect for El Seibo, Manuel Ramon Jacobo Reyes died of a cardiac arrest at Miami's Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he had been taken for a routine check-up. During the examination a benign tumor was detected in one of his lungs. He died in the hospital while recovering from the operation. Jacobo Reyes was chosen as the PLD candidate for El Seibo after his son Ricardo Jacobo was rejected for not having been born or lived El Seibo for the required number of years.
The electoral law gives the PLD 30 days to choose a replacement for the late Manuel Ramon Antonio Jacobo (Lincoln). It is understood that the party could choose his son, Ricardo Jacobo.
