Two foreign nationals, one from the US one from Switzerland have been taken to court for violation of beach rights in Cabrera on the north coast. As reported in 7dias.com.do, Chester Stuart Smart and Renato Bruno Vicetti are accused of constructing two buildings next to the Limon River and trying to build a marina and an apart-hotel on the El Puerto beach in Cabrera. The location is an access point for visiting a protected area known as the Cap Frances Viejo Natural Monument. The Cabrera Fishermen's Association presented the legal case with the backing of the Cibao Ecological Society (SOECI). Local organizations, which have been campaigning against the privatization of beach access, planted a Dominican flag on the recovered access areas.
