I just plugged in some bull shit Sept dates on American to POP and I got quoted $104.50 for taxes and fees with miles. In April it was $102.50 so I don't know where the 2 bucks came from.

I wonder how American can do it for less than Continental?

I just priced out some round trips to POP from EWR (July 10 to April 11) and came up with $133.80 all the time. I noticed that difference between the $133 and the $187 is the Dominican Republic Transportation Tax of $54.10 (highlighted above).

I see no record of such a tax. it comes out to $133 every single time, just as Tony said.
and if it WERE a tax, would the other airlines not ALSO have to charge it as well ???

Continental is my perfered airline but this crap with changing the flight schedule that they did prevents me from using them and I am stuck with jet blue.

I want thur thru mon flights and to top it off jetblue jacked the prices by at least 140. Sorry had to vent about this BS.

It has me thinking about other locations ;) which wouldn't be a bad thing.

That includes the exit fee, but not the 10 bucks coming in.

I posted in another thread about the curtailed schedule to destinations on the North Coast (POP, STI) and the generally diminished availability of air service to the DR.
Flights to the DR have always been expensive ($450 - 600) for a 3 h trip from ATL. Suffice it to say that these fares are in-line w/ what I pay to fly to Continental Europe off-season (four times the distance by mileage).

I think this time the Dominicans have taken it too far; they should not be charging any, or minimal, taxes in support of getting tourists into the country. INSTEAD ONE IS TAKEN TO THE CLEANERS BEFORE EVEN SETTING FOOT INTO THE DR.

they transfer the bags for you on that right? I just made silver on continental and may take that flight!!!
