Ubaldo Jimenez became the first pitcher in 22 years to reach 15 victories before the All-Star break yesterday as he looked great against the mighty St. Louis Cardinals, giving up just one run in eight innings and coming out with the win. The last pitcher to win 15 games like this was Greg Maddux, but he only won three more games the rest of the season. Jimenez now has an ERA of just 2.20 and he is on the way to becoming one of the all-time winning pitchers from Latin America, following in the footsteps of Adolfo Luque (27 wins), Juan Marichal (26), Mike Cuellar (24) and Pedro Martinez (23). Jimenez is also the third Dominican pitcher to perform this feat, along with Marichal, who was 15-4 at this point of the season in 1966 and Pedro Martinez, who was 15-3 in 1999.
