The Ministry of Culture honored four Dominican authors for their contributions to literature and music yesterday. Culture Minister Jose Rafael Lantigua and deputy ministers Alexander Santana, Bernarda Jorge and Lourdes de Cuello were at the Palace of Bellas Artes auditorium to congratulate the winners.
This year's winners are:
Marcio Veloz Maggiolo for his novel "Memoria Tremens" (Literature award).
Tony Troncoso for his children book "Las aventuras del nino inventor y la bruja Marleny" (Adventures of the Child Inventor and Marleny the witch).
Jeannette Miller won in the storytelling books category for "A mi no me gustan los boleros" (I don't like Boleros).
Alexis Gomez Rosa in poetry for "Marginal de una lengua" (Side of a Tongue).
Jose Baez Guerrero in history category for his "Guzman: su vida, gobierno y suicidio" (Guzman: his Life, Government and Suicide).
Angelo Valenzuela won for his theater play "La visita de un intruso" (An Intruder's Visit).
Enelio Betances won in scientific essay for "La Iglesia Catolica y la political del poder en America Latina" (Catholic Church and Policies of Power in Latin America).
Eugenio Garcia Cuevas was awarded in literary essay for his "Poesia Moderna dominicana del siglo XX y los contextos internacionales (Dominican Modern Poetry of the 20th Century and the International Contexts).
Jonatan Pina Duluc won in the chamber music category for "Suite para piano" (Suite for Piano).
Manuel Tejada for "Todo mi amor te doy" in danceable music. He also won the folklore category for his Jimenoa.
Massiel Abdias Manon Vargas won in the pop rock category for "Cancion" (Song).
The winners were chosen from 72 musical works, 54 in popular music, 18 in classical music, 11 in chamber music. In literature, there were 204 contenders, including 46 in poetry, 32 in fiction, 36 short stories, 31 children books, 19 plays, 36 essays and 4 history books.
