Education Minister Melanio Paredes is reminding parents that registration for public school is free. According to El Nuevo Diario, Paredes called on the public to report any case of schools trying to charge for registering students. He provided a telephone number, (809) 688-9700, extensions 2440 and 2441, for reporting this violation to the Office of Access to Information. Paredes went so far as to provide a number (809) 796-8877, which is office director Henry Nunez's cell phone number.
The minister warned that if he received a complaint about any school where parents have been charged for registration or for the National Tests, there would be consequences. During his telephone interview with journalist Huchi Lora on CDN, Paredes said that some school principals are already under suspension for charging for the National Tests.
