Through his Global Foundation Democracy and Development (Funglode) think tank and higher learning center, President Leonel Fernandez is organizing a Forum for Peace for 23-25 July at Cap Cana. Experts and diplomats from the Middle East are expected to take part in the event that will seek solutions to the stagnating peace process in the region.
"We live in an era of globalization and any event that happens in the world affects us. Peace or war in the Middle East affects the world and that is why the Dominican Republic has taken this step to organize this event," said President Leonel Fernandez upon announcing the event.
Among the names mentioned for attendees are former Jordanian prime ministers Marouf al-Bakhit and Taher al-Masri, former Labor Party spokesman in the Israeli Parliament Colette Avital and former Israeli Justice minister Yossi Beilin. Also Yasir Abd Rabo and Assad Abdel Rahman from the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO).
