With the announcement by PLD deputy Alfonso Crisostomo that the country should propose President Leonel Fernandez as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize, the President is scheduled to return today after a visit that took him to meet the highest- ranking state officials in Germany and the United States. In Germany, President Fernandez met with President Christian Wulff and Chancellor Angela Merkel and in the US with President Barack Obama.
On the home front, Claudio Acosta, news commentator in Hoy, says that President Fernandez is behind the organization of a Forum for Peace, with experts on the Middle East coming from 30 countries. The event is organized by the President's think tank-university, Funglode.
Meanwhile, Acosta wonders out loud what the Forum for Peace will cost and who is paying. He says that in no other country can a government official - let alone a head of government - mix state activities with those of a foundation like Funglode, which handles so many resources, without raising questions. He comments that it is unlikely that anyone will remind the President that he is obliged to set an example and respect the laws.
