The entire National Drug Control Department contingent for the province of Samana has been placed under arrest. Officials are accused of taking bribes for allowing the operation of drug distribution points. DNCD inspector Major Joan Antonio Peralta and First Lieutenant Eligio Jimenez Valdez are among those under arrest.
Hoy reports that their arrest and transfer to Santo Domingo took place after an undercover operation carried out by prosecutor Juan Medina de los Santos. The officers and other agents were arrested after they were found to have received money that had been marked by the prosecutor office and bribes by undercover drug dealers. Once this proof was obtained, Medina, in coordination with Police agents headed by Colonel Jose Polanco, traveled to Samana to make the arrests.
