The first of three radars, a US$35 million purchase, arrived in the DR from Israel yesterday. Armed Forces Minister, Lieutenant General Pedro Rafael Pena Antonio said that the radars are key for the effectiveness of the eight Super Tucano Brazilian airplanes, purchased last year by the government at a cost of US$80 million. The radar is ELM2106NG, sold by Elta, as reported in Listin Diario.
The radar will primarily cover the skies in the south and east of the country. The purchase was also made in order to support the Navy's efforts to improve surveillance by sea.
