The Fernandez administration payroll plans to spend 20.9% of the Gross Domestic Product in 2010 on wages. This is up from 3.7% of the GDP in 2009.
As reported in Hoy, the number of workers on the central government's official monthly payroll was 430,248 (RD$5.26 billion), 129,105 retired workers (RD$1.14 billion), and 148,087 people in the decentralized departments (RD$2.27 billion), for a total of 578,335 employees on payroll and RD$7.54 billion in wages.
