El Dia reports today on the weakening of a major cocaine and heroin trafficking route that used the DR as transshipment point to Puerto Rico. Currently under arrest in addition to Jose David Figueroa Agosto are:
Wilfredo Andujar Guzman (arrested September 2001 and extradited to Puerto Rico in February 2002).
Antonio del Rosario Puente (Tono Lena) who operated primarily in the eastern Dominican Republic and who was arrested in June 2010 in Venezuela and deported to the DR. Investigators say Tono Lena was Figueroa's leading associate in the DR who received 90% of the cocaine that was sent from the DR to Puerto Rico, as reported in El Nacional.
Luis Alberto Santacruz Echeverri, a Colombian who was regarded as a possible successor to the notorious Cali Cartel. He reportedly operated in Samana and also used dams for air drops in the northeast. He was extradited to New York.
Figueroa Agosto and Del Rosario Puente were in charge of purchasing the drugs from whoever was importing them from Colombia and Venezuela to send it to Puerto Rico.
Miguel Angel Ayala Vasquez (Angelo Millones), who is also under arrest in Puerto Rico, is thought to be responsible for distribution of drugs received from Figueroa Agosto and Tono Lena in Puerto Rico and abroad.
