The Dominican Republic defeated Cuba to claim the Under-20 years old category First Round Group B title at the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium yesterday. The country now moves on to the second round of Caribbean qualifiers and is one step closer to a historic first-ever berth among the world's elite youth teams at next summer's FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada.
FIFA.COM (http://www.fifa.com) reports that the DR's Jonathan Fana was the star player, scoring four goals during the four-game series. The DR defeated the Cubans, the Cayman Islands and Anguilla.
The DR will now meet Bermuda, Haiti, Jamaica and three other first round champions to be determined over the course of three more first round quadrangular competitions this August.
