Plastic surgeon Edgar Contreras, who the authorities say performed surgeries on more than 30 women sent to him by former justice fugitive Puerto Rican Jose Figueroa Agosto, denied that he had changed the face of the alleged capo after he fled the DR on 3 September 2009.
The controversial doctor did admit that he performed surgery on Figueroa Agosto's nose in 2002. But Contreras alleges that when he operated on the Puerto Rican, he was known by the name of Cristian Almonte Peguero, so he never knew Figueroa Agosto.
Junior Capsula, as the now prisoner is also known, escaped from the Rio Piedras State Prison on 5 November 1999 and managed to enter the Dominican Republic in 2001.
Contreras, who is involved in several cases of medical malpractice, said that the last time he talked to Figueroa Agosto was in 2008.
Likewise the last time he saw him was in 2007 and since September 2009, "I knew about Figueroa Agosto".
He admits that he carried out surgeries on women that were referred by the alleged capo described by the US Marshal as the Escobar of the Caribbean.
