The Ministry of Foreign Relations of the Dominican Republic has requested the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to deport Sobeida Felix Morel from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to the Dominican Republic. In an official communication, delivered on Monday at 4:25pm the Ministry said that the fugitive has charges of contempt of court and an arrest warrant pending in the Dominican justice system.
In the meantime, the assistant Attorney General and national director of Prosecution of Drug Trafficking and Complex Crimes, Frank Soto and the District Attorney of the National District, Alejandro Moscoso Segarra were getting ready to travel today to Puerto Rico.
As reported locally, the Dominican prosecutors seek want to avoid federal officials filing charges against Figueroa Agosto's girlfriend. Felix Morel, who is accused of money laundering in the DR and had skipped bail in Santo Domingo and traveled to Puerto Rico, turned herself in to the authorities on Saturday shortly after the capture of Figueroa Agosto.
"The Ministry of Foreign Relations appreciates in advance the good offices of the Honorable Embassy of the United States of America might carry out with relation to this request, and at the same time reaffirm the assurances of their highest consideration," the note adds. The District Attorney of the National District has the firm assumption that Sobeida entered United States territory illegally, since her passport is still sealed in their files.
