The entire National Drug Control Department (DNCD) staff in Boca Chica, under a mayor, is under arrest at the DNCD headquarters in Santo Domingo. The agents are investigated for alleged extortion to owners of drug sales points in the beach town. In addition to taking bribes, the contingent is being held responsible for missing cocaine, as reported in El Dia. The Boca Chica division had just last year been raised in category within the DNCD, with a superior officer placed in charge. The agents were said to be members of different branches of the Armed Forces and the Police.
On 15 July, the DNCD had announced its entire contingent in Samana was being placed under arrest accused of taking bribes for allowing the operation of drug distribution points.
Early this month, senator Wilton Guerrero had said that the DNCD was by itself a drug cartel, but that things under Major General Rolando Rosado Mateo were improving.
