The Center for Emergency Operations (COE) raised the alert level from yellow to red for the provinces of Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Monte Plata and Duarte (especially the Lower Yuna Basin) due to the rains that are expected to increase the volume of water that has fallen over recent days.
Moreover, the COE instructed the assistance organizations in the area to carry out the preventive evacuations needed because the Yuna River is near flood stage. The rains, with bursts of strong winds and thunderstorms, will continue for the next 48 hours over a large part of the national territory due to the effects of a tropical wave that yesterday was located over Haiti, but with clouds that covered the country and reached Puerto Rico.
The yellow alert is still in place for Samana, Monsignor Nouel, and Sanchez Ramirez, while a green alert is in place for Barahona, San Jose de Ocoa, Peravia, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, La Altagracia, La Romana, San Pedro de Macoris, Santo Domingo, the National District, La Vega, and San Cristobal, especially Villa Altagracia and the towns located in the Lower Nizao Basin.
The COE reported that in La Guarana, of San Francisco de Macoris, the community of Las Mercedes was cut off from Los Limones due to the flooding of the Guiza River. Also, in Cabrera, Maria Trinidad Sanchez province, 59 houses were flooded by the Boba and Baki rivers. In Rancho Arriba, San Jose de Ocoa, the communities of Arroyo Cano, La Julia and Los Morones were cut off by the flooding of the Banilejo River.
