The Dominican Republic and Haiti will begin today the work of the Mixed Bi-lateral Commission, created in 1996 as a forum for discussing the most pressing mutual problems. Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso said that a delegation of high-ranking officials from the Haitian chancellery would arrive to begin the work of the Mixed Commission. The meetings at the Dominican Chancellery will start as soon as he returns from Havana, Cuba, where he is accompanying President Leonel Fernandez on an official visit.
According to Morales Troncoso, this Haitian commission will also coordinate the President Fernandez's planned trip to Haiti on 31 July. There, the President will break ground to begin construction of the US$50 million university the DR would be donating to Haiti. Regarding this, Morales Troncoso said the university will be financed by the Dominican government and will have the support of the business community.
