The Investigative Judge at the Children's and Adolescent Tribunal for the province of Santo Domingo, Nelvis Alcantara, sent the five young persons accused of murdering seven taxi drivers to a criminal tribunal to face charges as adults. The trial is expected to get underway on 28 August. Two of the defendants were sent to the Najayo Prison since they have turned 18. The court took the decision after accepting the petition made by the assistant district attorneys Miledys Dominguez and Diara Diaz who said that these defendants should be sent before a criminal court because of the serious nature of their crimes. There were dozens of taxi drivers outside the courtroom asking for justice in the case and the modification of the Code of Minors.
