The hurricane season's third tropical depression became Tropical Storm Bonnie just hours after passing to the north of the Dominican Republic. Forecasts have put the probable path of the storm leading into the Gulf of Mexico. But prior to leaving territorial waters, it brought extensive rains and flooding.
The rains caused the evacuation of 1,570 persons and left some 14 communities isolated because of flooding and the overflowing of rivers. The report from the Center of Emergency Operations (COE) indicate that 317 houses reported flooded and of these, three was said to be completely destroyed by the thunderstorms that will continue all weekend, according to the National Meteorological Office (Onamet). This is because of the cloud cover that is over the island. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, there are 30,000 'tareas' of rice in the Northeast that are under water.
The weather forecast is for less rain on Saturday and the sun should be shining on Sunday.
