Acting under orders of Colonel Eugenio Aquino, a Police contingent violently disbanded the group of protesters against police violence that sought to cross from the Museum of Dominican Man to the Police, practically across the street. News reports say that at least six persons, mostly youths, were beat up by the agents, receiving minor wounds.
The youths had begun their walk at 27 de Febrero corner Maximo Gomez and would organize at the Museum of Dominican Man prior to walking to the Palace of the Police.
An estimated 100 youths were part of the protest and were met by an estimated 300 policemen, said medical student Fernando Gil. He said he participated in the march because he wants to graduate. Recently, a graduate law student was murdered by a policeman when he did not heed an order to immediately stop in a dark area.
Gil complained on the Matutino Alternativo morning talk show that the contingent under Aquino treated them as terrorists, closing all doors and intimidating the persons participating in the march that had been reported to the Ministry of Interior & Police as legally required.
The group complained of the high number of police agents that participate in crimes.
