Hacienda Minister Vicente Bengoa says that the proposed change to the Pro-Industry Law is so that taxes be paid on imports at Customs, and not in the form of sales taxes paid by the consumer. Business sectors say this penalizes exports and local production.
Furthermore, Bengoa said the tax on fuel will be annually indexed for inflation, as reported in Hoy.
Reformista deputy and PLD ally, Luis Jose Gonzalez submitted today to Congress a bill to modify the Hydrocarbons Law (Law 112-00) so that prices be fixed every 15 days and not every week as at present. The bill also calls for the indexation of prices annually, and not quarterly as at present. The bill, nevertheless, leaves the control of prices to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, instead of to the Ministry of Hacienda, as proposed by Vicente Bengoa.
The Gonzalez bill proposes that Customs will reduce tariffs on the import of tires and spare parts for vehicles to compensate for the higher cost of fuel, as reported in 7dias.com.do (http://7dias.com.do)
