Alejandro Pena Prieto, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in the DR is calling on the government to study better the fiscal measures it is proposing, including the indexation of taxes on fuel and the elimination of tax incentives. Speaking at the Chamber's monthly luncheon meeting, Pena Prieto said that the government needs to analyze which of these measures could reduce employment, provoke inflation and affect the economy. He suggested instead that the government look into eliminating superfluous spending and concentrate on investments that have a high return, such as education and health. "To increase revenue they have to stimulate economic growth, creating the conditions for the private sector to generate wealth and jobs," said Pena Prieto, as reported in El Dia.
