Laura Virginia Franco visited the MovieMax shop on Friday to rent a video at around 8:30pm. When she was paying, Luis Antonio Ortiz, 47, entered the store, gun in hand and shot at the cashier, 30-year old Vladimir Diaz, who was hit in the back, but not seriously. Another bullet scraped employee Yanara Gonzalez in the foot. While not intended for her, one of the shots injured Franco in the neck and she had to be taken to intensive care at the Abel Gonzalez Clinic.
Witnesses said Ortiz fled the MovieMax shop at Victor Garrido Puello street, near the corner of Abraham Lincoln Avenue on board a brown Mercedes Benz.
According to one of Laura's relatives, Karla Gross, she did not have any idea who Luis Ortiz was or why he had attacked Diaz. She does remember that before he shot, Ortiz told Diaz: "I told you I would be back."
Hoy reports that Ortiz fired at Diaz because he is married to his ex-wife.
The Police are on his trail.
