91% have ordered new checks

As of 28 July, 91% of bank clients had ordered bank checks in the new format. As of 18 August, only new format checks will be acceptable, as reported in Hoy. There are an estimated 300,000 checking account holders in the DR. Only seven companies were authorized to print the checks since January of this year. The new format enhances the security and efficiency of the checking system throughout all local banks, according to Fabiola Herrera, director of the Central Bank's Payment Systems Department, who explained the changes during the IV International Congress on Finances and Auditing (CIFA) held 29 July to 1 August in Bayahibe.
