The president of the Northern Section of the National Association of Vehicle Distributors (Anadive) is seeking to exert pressure on the government to desist from its increases in the appraisal of old vehicles in Customs. Euler Veloz, spokesman for the organization, says the authorities have increased the value of vehicles by 20-30%.
In protest, the importers said they would not import any more used vehicles or pay taxes on the vehicles that are already in port. Veloz has scheduled a meeting with Customs director Rafael Camilo this coming week.
