Augusto Alberto Daneris Andujar has pleaded guilty to charges of money laundering brought by the Justice Department, and negotiated a three-year prison sentence.
The Justice Department has filed charges against 22 people in the Paya drug-related murder case. Daneris Andujar admitted to money laundering, but distanced himself from the massacre of seven Colombians in Paya and from any drug trafficking.
The prosecutors who brought the charges accepted the defendant's guilty plea and are hurrying to file a formal request at the Third Collegiate Tribunal of the Penal Chamber of the Court of the First Instance to impose a three-year prison sentence, including the two years already served.
The defendant is accused of being the middleman for deceased Colombian Dario Atencio Vargas (El Don or Canerete), and without revealing his name, was able to move financial products in the banking system as well as acquiring luxurious properties where Vargas' name never appeared.
